check out the vatican, being all ironic and shit
The Vatican warned Catholic women on Friday to think hard before marrying a Muslim and urged Muslims to show more respect for human rights, gender equality and democracy.
Let’s go through that one more time, shall we? The Vatican is telling other people to show respect for human rights, gender equality and democracy.
So funny it goes straight past into the realm of unfunny and right back through to being funny again.
I’m Philippine-born, but I haven’t lived their in such a long, long time and mainly know what’s happening presently there through relatives, friends, short trips (which I rarely go nowadays…), and of course the internet. I just want to know how did you manage to survive living in The Philippines? Especially with the dominant power the Catholic Church has on Philippine society and government. Committing adultery is considered a crime? Even though, divorce is illegal? I mean how conflicted is that? Don’t even get me started on contraceptives (You see how the Church gave a lot of flack to Arroyo for her past use of contraceptive pills? Ugh! Then they wonder why they have problems with overpopulation – 12 kids and parents have no jobs.)…and you know how hard it is to find tampons in The Philippines?! Supposedly, it’s EVIL to use tampons. I didn’t use the tampons, a friend ran out during a vacation trip, and we staked out EVERY store (exxagerating…) in the Pangasinan province…WE DIDN’T FIND ANY!
I would love to move back to The Philippines one day, but considering that the only Progressives that I know of are close knit of friends, my relatives, and a few aquaintances…it’s kind of hard thinking of living in a country which social views conflict with mine.
Also…what’s with this employment discrimination…like every job ad in Philippine newspapers have it listed as a MUST that you have to be at least 5’3″ to work there (also pretty, since beauty rules over brains there…). God forbid, you’re 5′ 1″ and with a brain.
Hey…I just stumbled on your post. You’re so right though. My vagina is angry with the Philippines. I am a survivor of rape in the philippines, and I went though medico-legal examination. The doctor upon examination asked me if I stuck my finger up my vagina or any other instrument prior to being raped…the doctor didn’t even know what tampons were. The police asked me if I enjoyed it. I was supposed to be there on vacation, I’m never going back again. It’s hard to understand misogyny and patriarchal countries such as the Philippines. I don’t think they’re Catholic at all…with the present situation of sex-trafficking and the absence of gender equality, the penis driven fascists. I feel sorry for any woman in the Philippines. She’s either raped, a nurse, emotionally dead, or overseas. People actually stand outside for pesos asking you to give them money so they can pray for you. No wonder my mom (pilipina born) left and didn’t make one attempt to return. It took her 25 years. She told me I shouldn’t use tampons, she warned me that I’d lose my “virginity.” I wish she’d re-think that a little, considering even a virgin who used tampons can be raped. BUT PROTECT YOUR VIRGINITY. Fuck virginity. What the fuck is involved by a woman’s physical security of her HYMEN.
I love virgins, that’s why I always go to school to fetch me some 3rd yr. HS virgins. To enlighten you all the philippines are full of beautiful women that I wouldn’t leave even to death. What I would probe will be that stinker patch they’ve been inventing and couldn’t perfect. The catholic churches are very influential to the government, I’m in spite. Show some respect, show some godliness but I don’t know where they use my offerings.
I am sorry that happened to you, Arima. I really do love the Philippines; I have so many already grown God-children living there; especially around Santiago City, Isabela. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Filipinas, in general.
im having a hard time finding tampons here too and the people are very ignorant. my sister whos supposed to be a nurse saw my birth control and had no idea what it was. the worst part is that its te governments fault and not theirs. i cant imagine how anyone could live here especially women. i cant wait to go home.
