My favorite thing about the subway\u2014the airconditioned cars aside\u2014has always been the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mta.nyc.ny.us\/mta\/pim\/index.html\">Poetry In Motion<\/a> program, for which the the MTA and the Poetry Society of America choose poems and excerpts &#8220;short enough to be readable on one of our subway or bus cards&#8221; every year and place them for commuters to read, between ads for <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/lia\/9530927\/\">Dr Zizmor<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe following poem by Alicia Partnoy is from last year&#8217;s selection; I like it so much each time I&#8217;ve seen it I&#8217;ve quickly scribbled it down in order to remember to post it, but for some reason it&#8217;s taken me an entire year to share it with you. Sorry about that.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am talking to you about poetry<br \/>and you say<br \/>when do we eat.<br \/>The worst of it is<br \/>I\u2019m hungry too.<\/p>\n<p>Yo te hablo de poes\u00eda<br \/>y vos me pregunt\u00e1s<br \/>a qu\u00e9 hora comemos.<br \/>Lo peor es que<br \/>yo tambi\u00e9n tengo hambre.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Communication is from Partnoy&#8217;s 1992 collection, <a href=\"http:\/\/amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/0939416638\/cheesedip\/ref=nosim\/\">Revenge of the Apple\/Venganza de la manzana<\/a>; her latest collection is 2005&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/1597090026\/cheesedip\/ref=nosim\/\">Volando bajito<\/a>.
