{"id":3690,"date":"2007-02-14T08:33:26","date_gmt":"2007-02-14T13:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lia.bulaong.com\/wp\/?p=3690"},"modified":"2007-02-14T08:33:26","modified_gmt":"2007-02-14T13:33:26","slug":"napping_in_the_news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lia.bulaong.com\/blog\/2007\/02\/napping_in_the_news\/","title":{"rendered":"napping in the news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Athens Medical School have found that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/health\/6354855.stm\">taking regular naps is really good for you<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The researchers found those who took naps of any frequency and duration had a 34% lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who did not take midday naps.<\/p>\n<p>Those who took naps of more than 30 minutes three or more times a week had a 37% lower risk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/17121410\/site\/newsweek\/\">More on napping<\/a> from Newsweek:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>NASA sleep researchers have found that a nap of 26 minutes can boost performance by as much as 34 percent.  A 2006 study from the Stanford University School of Medicine found that napping resulted in improved mood, increased alertness and reduced lapses in performance among doctors and nurses.\n<\/p>\n<p>The French, for their part, are already trying to incorporate the news into their labor policies: France&#8217;s Health Minister, Xavier Bertrand, told reporters this month that the government\u2014which already allows for a 35-hour work week\u2014will be studying the effects of after-lunch naps at volunteer firms and will promote on-the-job naps if they prove useful. &#8220;Why not take a nap at work?&#8221; Bertrand told reporters. &#8220;It can&#8217;t be a taboo subject.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m a dedicated lifelong napper (<a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/search\/?q=jarvis+sleeping&#038;w=12037949802%40N01&#038;z=t\">as is my dog<\/a>) and take a nap most every afternoon.
